Electric Space Heaters

Electric space heaters are either portable or wall mounted and are generally used to heat an enclosed area. There are many designs, style and sizes of electric space heaters. In order to come to a decision regarding the type of electric space heater that is best suited to your purposes it is wise to assess your specific needs. This can be done by determining exactly how you wish the heater to function.

In order to ensure the best match between heater and space, you will first need to work out the size of the area you wish to heat. Next you need to look at whether you wish to heat the whole space or just require the heat to be directed in one area. Once you’ve answered those questions for yourself the next thing is to work out where exactly in your living or work space you will be able to situate your electric space heater. Finally, you need to decide whether you want to be able to take your heater with you when you leave the space or would you prefer to have it fixed to the wall as a permanent fixture.

Having determined the answers to all of those questions you are now ready to choose your electric space heater. In order to make your choice you need to be aware that electric space heaters fall into the following general categories -

Radiant heaters

These are either fitted or free standing electric space heaters and come in a wide variety of styles and sizes ranging from the old-fashioned two-bar heater to sleek, modern stove-style heaters. Radiant heaters are best suited to areas where you require direct heat into a small area and are ideal for many workspaces as a result.

Convection and Fan heaters

These electric space heaters once again can be either free standing or fitted. They both work on the same principles where an internal coil is heated to produce hot air which is released into the space. A convection heater allows the hot air to slowly seep into the area to be heated, a fan heater distributes the hot air more rapidly using an internal fan.

Panel Heaters/Electric Radiators

Electric radiators or panel heaters are oil or water filled space heaters that once again can be fixed or portable. They heat the space like a conventional radiator insofar as they are metal units filled with heatable fluid that radiates heat into the area to be heated.
As electric space heaters these units are very suitable to spaces that require slow and constant heat. Given that they have no exposed electrical parts these heaters are suitable for use around small children and may be safely left switched on even when unattended.

Electric space heaters are a convenient, safe, elegant and affordable solution for heating almost any home or workspace. They come in a wide range of sizes, styles and types and their versatility and beauty can prove to be a wise – and cosy – investment.
